About Alex

Hello! I’m Alex: the birth + postpartum doula behind The Village of Roses. I am a mama of two, a homesteader, and a wife of ten years. I’m a lover of slow mornings, heart-to-heart conversations, laughter, warm drinks, gardening, and baby snuggles. I am extremely passionate about holistic health, pregnancy and birth, motherhood, nutrition, low-toxin living, homebirth, and gardening.

I started in health care in 2010 by getting my CNA and going through nursing school, with a goal of working in L&D after-the-fact, only to find out that I didn’t want to be “in the system.” I was not sure how to support women while staying true to my heart until I stumbled upon becoming a doula – and then a midwifery birth assistant.

Having my daughter in the hospital and then having a homebirth with my son really lit a fire in my heart. I realized that there is a lack of true care and compassion offered to women during the childbearing years, especially when it comes to carrying a child, birthing, and the postpartum period. I also believe that over the years, “The Village” that we have all heard about has dwindled away.

I know that mothers need listening ears, mothers need other mothers walking the path with them, hand-in-hand, mothers need support and love, and mothers desperately need the village back.

I’m here to re-awaken the village. Yes, one person at a time.

I am here to support women.

I am here to meet women where they are.

I am here to mother together.

I am here to help educate.

I am here to listen.

I am here to instill a sense of peace and confidence in your birthing experience – because I truly know that you can have a peaceful, physiologic, life changing birth.

And I’m here to love.

Your village should be filled with love and support, based on what YOU want and need during your birthing and motherhood experience. I hope I can be a small part of that village, bringing love, support, peace, and true care to all of you.

Think we might be a fit? As a Canton doula, I specialize in attending planned homebirths in North Georgia, as well as unmedicated births in select hopsital settings. Check out who I serve and shoot me a text or an email. If you are ready to book, here are the next steps that you can expect.

I’m excited to provide you with:

Services

There is no single woman or baby alike and I believe that each family has different desires and needs when it comes to their prenatal and birthing experience. Because of this, each offering is 100% individualized, but you can always expect:

Prenatal + Birth Support

If you are looking for a birth doula in North Georgia who will go above and beyond to make sure you feel heard, empowered, and cared for from start to finish, you’ve found the right person. I aim to form a connection with you that makes it feel like I am a part of your village and extended family. This includes but is not limited to: support and connection starting when you sign your contract through 12 weeks postpartum, 24/7 on-call support starting at 37 weeks, and dedicated back-up support. As your birth doula, I will support you during your pregnancy and continuously throughout your entire labor and into the postpartum stage. I have plenty of tools, resources, and education to give you, but connecting with you and making you feel safe is my priority.

Intentional Postpartum Care

When it comes to postpartum care, I meet you where you are and my goal is to “mother the mother.” I believe that bounce back culture is toxic – mothers need to give themselves time to rest, recover, and bond with their baby. You just did hard work! I want to make sure that you feel like you are able to take the time you need and deserve. Need help with siblings? I’ve got you. Do you need a shower? Let me help! Your emotional and physical needs during the postpartum period will be intentionally heard – and then taken care of. Most mothers feel obligated to get out of bed to get things done. With my support, I will make sure that you feel able to stay in bed and care for yourself and your new baby.

Resources & Extras

Even if you have been through pregnancy in the past, or you’ve been through the postpartum and infant stage with multiple kids already, sometimes you just need a listening ear and/or extra support. I’m here for you! Need help adding to your village? I have plenty of resources for you and I can connect you with professionals you might benefit from (such as IBCLC’s, holistic health providers, chiropractors, OT’s, and more).

In addition, I also offer add-ons such as homemade tallow belly balm, organic tinctures from my garden, healing meals, organic tea blends for pregnancy + postpartum, and more.

Benefits of Having A Doula For Birth Support

There are so many incredible benefits of using a birth doula and postpartum doula during your childbearing year. In addition, there are countless evidence-based articles and research showing how having a doula for support support can lead to better birth outcomes.

Research shows that when you choose to use a doula, it can lead to better outcomes for both physical and mental health. Based on research, doulas have been found to reduce cesarean frequency (leading to better outcomes for the mother and child), low birth weight, and premature labor. “Doula intervention has also been correlated with a decrease in epidural use during delivery, increased rates of breastfeeding, and the use of safety precautions for the child. The advocacy that doulas provide can increase well-being and satisfaction concerning the birthing process, and it provides education and support. This support may reduce mental health morbidities, such as PTSD, in mothers without a support system. The implementation of doulas as a common healthcare entity could be helpful, particularly with women who experience healthcare disparity.”

Having a doula present as a part of your birth team can lead to a:
